Siren aired its summer finale entitled, “New World Order” on Thursday night, which focused on the following:

STUPID
Lisa: Can I just start by saying this episode had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Lawd! Given the twist at the end, it’s hard to pick a stupid moment. But if I had to pick, it would be the man on the boat sending 2 divers in the water to catch a mermaid and think a little tranquilizer gun would be enough to capture one. That should have been a red flag right there that it was all a dream.
Rueben: I was sucked right in too; and thought it was way too easy that the divers caught Donna’s daughter. I should’ve seen that whole dream coming, but I didn’t until Maddie was shot. But for me, it was Xander and Calvin hunting with those guys for the money; and Xander just going along with it.
Lisa: Yes! The whole time I was thinking I can’t believe Xander is such a sell out! I wasn’t surprised by Calvin at all because he totally would do that. I thought for sure Xander was going to be at the top of the stupid list. I’m glad that wasn’t the case.
Rueben: Yeah, I totally bought Calvin joining in the hunt, but I was surprised by Xander. I guess hiss switching sides should have been more of a clue to me, but the thought didn’t cross my mind. I guess I should’ve have given him the benefit of the doubt.

AWESOME
Lisa: The level of suspense for 95% of this episode was awesome! I was afraid to blink. I really didn’t like how the world was going once the mermaid secret was out and I thought, I can’t take another Veronica Mars level disappointment season finale. Thank you to the writers for giving us a peek at what a shit show it could have been, without it being a reality. Bravo!
Rueben: Wow, Lisa. I don’t think I could’ve said it any better. For me it was seeing that last scene of Maddie getting shot and the reaction of Ryn, Ben and her dad. Very powerful and moving. I have to agree with you, too, that after dealing with what happened on Veronica Mars, I wouldn’t have been able to handle the same thing happening on Siren. I’m glad it had that great twist.
Lisa: I know it was so well done! And for me the atmosphere was perfect! In Atlanta, we have had bad thunderstorms and loud rain, so I had the sound of water all around me with occasional thunder and it added to the suspense of the episode for me.
Rueben: Wow, Lisa, that would really add to the suspense. It was a tense enough episode to begin with without Mother Nature helping it along. The way they depicted that prison was a bit too on the nose for the way potential emigrants are being treated by our government too.
SO SO
Lisa: I am at a loss for words here. This was a stellar season finale from beginning to end. No so-so for me at all.
Rueben: I guess, after the fact, I was yelling “oh c’mon!” when the reveal was made that it was all in Ben’s mind, deciding whether to save Ian or not.
Lisa: Honestly about half way through the episode I thought, “Why the hell did Ben save him? He should have let him drown” (with a few F bombs thrown in there…lol)” I hate to wish ill will on someone but come on, look at all the chaos it could have caused! I’m glad it went the way it did. RIP Ian.
Rueben: Yeah, I kinda felt that way too – this time without the F-bombs (which is my normal reaction to an episode like that). I think I was so stunned by all that was happening until it was switched back to Ben in the water, deciding what to do with Ian. It was a shame that Ian’s life ended that way, but he kind of brought it on himself.
YOUR THOUGHTS
Lisa: Wow. Just Wow! The writers really took us on a roller coaster of emotions here. I am so glad it ended the way it did because if Maddie was really dead, I don’t think I could have watched the show anymore. The air in my chest literally ran out during that scene. Shout out to the big three Eline Powell (Ryn), Alex Roe (Ben) and Fola Evans-Akingbola (Maddie) for giving phenomenal performances. Well Done!
Rueben: They really did a great job of psyching us out that’s for sure. It was hard to take my eyes off each scene as things went from bad to worse. They really made this an intense finale, but now it’s going to be the issue of guilt felt by Ben for leaving Ian in the car and what his dad intends to do. How funny, too, was it that Calvin and his girlfriend are going to give Mermaid Adventure Tours?
Lisa: OMG! That was the perfect comic relief after holding my breath for 50 minutes. I would totally take Calvin’s mermaid tour…lol. You are right Rueben, we will see Ben dealing with his guilt and how will that affect his relationship with Ryn and Maddie? Also, it looks like we might see a baby mermaid after all! Lots to look forward to in season 3, I just hate that we have to wait until spring 2020! Sheesh! What are we going to chat about now Rueben? 🙂
Rueben: Yeah, there’s going to be a lot of guilt on Ben’s part; and holy crap, I forgot about that tribe member having a baby from Ryn’s egg! That’s going to be dangerous for her to say the least; and it could spell doom for the tribe, as I don’t think they’re going to know what to do with a full blood of their own. I don’t know what we’ll do in the meantime while we wait for next Spring.
