Two more episodes of Siren aired on Freeform and it’s time to examine what happened in both.
First, Xander, Ben, Chris and Curtis set out to find the Navy troller and end up having a horrible encounter with Donna and a merman, which has disastrous results for Xander and then those disastrous results bring the entire town of Bristol Cove to say a tearful goodbye to one of their own.
Dead in the Water
After seeing Donna dive into the ocean and turning into a mermaid, he convinces Curtis and Chris to join him in the hunt to find one of them; and Ben comes along as well. But unbeknownst to the four, Xander’s dad Sean – a long-time fisherman – is also on board [because he and Xander’s mom are having marital problems.]
Soon enough the five men on board the North Star literally collided with the Cortez, the Navy Troller that was tasked with capturing as many mermaids as possible, only to discover the boat was dark and empty, but obviously recently vacated [the coffee was still hot in the cups.]
Their situation turned dire when spears came flying out of the water and a merman leapt on board, causing havoc and sadly, taking the life of Xander’s dad Sean. It was then that Xander and his friends had to come up with a story to explain his death and bury him at sea.
Elsewhere on land, Ryn was caught by the deputy and hauled into interrogation because she was suspected in the death of that trailer park guy. When Ryn mentioned to Maddie’s dad – the Sheriff – that Ben and Maddie have been helping her, daddy was pretty upset, calling Maddie in to tell the truth. Naturally, Maddie’s dad didn’t believe her explanation until they used sea water from the Sheriff’s office fish tank on Ryn’s hand, which immediately turned into claws from her partial transformation.
Being Human
Most of the episode was focused on saying goodbye to Xander’s dad Sean, who – as the four guys on the North Star and the viewers know – was killed by that merman; but to the townspeople of Bristol Cove, he was killed in a freak accident on board the North Star and regretfully lost at sea.
After Maddie attempted to explain what they were doing (by going to the service in Sean’s memory) to Ryn, the young woman decided to find out for herself. She showed up at the local bar to observe everyone. Eventually, Ben and Maddie learned Ryn was there and, obviously, they were concerned about what she would say to Xander [or anyone else there.] Their worst fear came true when Ryn talked to Xander, saying “they kill your father, I am sorry,” which set Xander off; especially after Maddie and Ben had to come clean to him about Ryn.
Ben was also in for a revelation when he gave his mother a ride home after Sean’s memorial: she got into the medical trial for which she has been trying to gain entry for years. How did that happen? Dr. Decker, who she met at the charity gala. Needless to say, Ben was not happy about that news.
The bigger problem facing the town, though, was the return of Donna to land with the merman who killed Xander’s dad and another mermaid, who are obviously looking for trouble.
What are your thoughts on the past two episodes of Siren? What do you think Xander will do now that he knows the truth about Ryn? What will happen in the town with Donna, the merman and another mermaid now on land? Please share your thoughts on the episodes below.
The next new episode of Siren will air on Freeform on Thursday, May 17 at 8/7c.
