MEET THE BEAST: Jay Ryan to Play Vincent

Jay Ryan, most recently seen in a supporting role in Fox’s Terra Nova, has been cast in the CW pilot for Beauty and the Beast, stepping into the role originated by Vincent in the 0riginal 1987-90 series from which this version is being rebooted. On that show, Vincent was truly a beast-man whose origins were never revealed. In the new take, Vincent has a last name, Koslow (in tribute to B&B creator Ron Koslow), and is decidedly human, though the victim of a military experiment gone terribly wrong that altered his looks but gave him superior strength, resulting in his becoming something of a secret superhero. The “beauty” of the title, homicide detective Catherine Chandler, is portrayed by Kristin Kreuk. Says Zap2it.com, “Catherine witnessed her mother’s murder nine years ago, but remembers that the murderer was killed by a Beast quickly after. And then they solve crimes!”
The latter description actually sounds a bit like Koslow’s last series (which he co-created with Trevor Munson), Moonlight, about a private detective named Mick St. John (Hawaii 5-0‘s Alex O’Loughlin) who also happens to be a vampire who saved the life of a young girl who grows up to be his love interest.  As to the fate of this particular Beauty and the Beast, we won’t know whether the series is a go or not until May.
