Disney released the teaser trailer to their 56th animated movie this week. Their newest princess is Moana. The movie, by the same name, is set three thousand years ago and follows her adventures.
Moana, a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
Also worth mentioning, the music is in part created by the ever amazing Lin-Manuel Miranda. Everything he touches is gold and this should be no exception.
Moana is voiced by newcomer Auli’l Cravalho a Hawaiian native who won the part based on what director, John Musker, said was “a certain fearlessness in her auditions and callbacks,” He went on to say “She has a playful, mischievous wit. She can project vulnerability, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all by the challenges ahead, and her Polynesian background has helped shape her connection to family, hard work, and music. These are all qualities she shares with Moana.”
The trailer is below and watch for Moana to hit theaters this November.
